Had a couple slow days this week because the Stripers moved on me and it took me a couple of days to find them again. By Sunday we were back on them hot and heavy and both the morning and afternoon charters got their limits plus we got some nice croakers, perch, and spot as well. I have had people asking me to let them know when they can charter to go bottomfishing. As you can see from the photos below they are here so now the time to go fishing for both Striped Bass and Pan Fish The afternoon sunsets are spectacular now and the evenings are nice and cool so you might want to consider booking an afternoon charter leaving between 2:30 to 3 p.m. and getting back to the dock around 9 p.m. Morning or evening, sunrise or sunset, it’s always a good day when you’re out on the bay!
I am going to relocate the Bay Quest down to Horn Harbor Marina in Mathews County to go Cobia/Shark fishing August 4,5,6, 7, & 8 this year. Last year I went in July and it was a little early so we’ll give it a try in early August this year. We’ll be fishing around the Bay Bridge Tunnel for the large Cobia and will get shark mixed in as well. The cost for these charters will be $675 for 6 people and $50 for each extra person over six. Cobia are big fighters so when you hook one of these you’ll never forget the experience. Cobia and shark are both really good eating also and their steaks on the grill are favorites. If you are interested don’t delay. 804-529-6725
I’ve starting chumming which gives you a lot of action using light tackle. We’ve been catching the Striper limit early which allows us to fish for other species. Today’s party took home Stripers, Bluefish and nice size Croakers. Got plenty of days available for bookings so get a group together and come on down. July 4th and 15th Open Boat Days still have slots available also. Capt. Dave
I usually only give a weekly fishing update but today was too good not to share. Today was the beginning of the regular Striper(rockfish) season where you can keep 2 fish per person. We had up to 5 fish on at once and got the limit in no time. I think everyone enjoyed pulling lots of fish. Hot, Hot, fishing!!!
Starting tomorrow you can keep 2 Stripers in addition to the other species we’ll be catching….Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Red Drum, Bottom Fish, etc. The large Stripers have stayed longer this year so there’s still plenty of good Striper fishing to be had. The first Bluefish of the season have showed up and the fish season continues to look good. Bookings are picking up but there are still a good selection available (especially afternoon charters). Catches on afternoon trips are just as good as the early morning plus you get a beautiful sunset to boot.
Next Open Boat Days are June 17th and July 4th. Cost is $100 per person which includes the mate’s tip. We leave Coan River Marina at 6:30 a.m. for a full day of fishing. By reservation only and must pay in advance. Call 804-529-6725 or email to make reservations. Come on out and enjoy a day of fishing.
